Seemingly the walls around the park were not there to barricade, but to create a peaceful land for people to come enjoy. It's not like the other parks that are always filled with people, pets, bicycles, sounds from children playing and loud noises from motorcycles zooming by. After an hour or so covering most of the park ground, I thought this is just what the residents of a overcrowded city need during any day in the week to enjoy a short walk in a winding path through a carefully arranged garden dotted with trees and flower beds or to reserve admission to art exhibition or performing in one of the two traditional Chinese building structures or to stroll along the not-too-long corridor along the side of the garden. The center piece of the hall is flanked by two traditional Chinese building structures.Įntering into the park, I was met with a wide open space.

What a great memorial hall park secluded in the middle of an ever busy city. (Please check the website or ask the museum before visiting as price may change) From the museum, it's also incredibly easy to go to the bus stop (there's even a bus stop inside the museum area) which you can use to directly go to Shilin Night Market.įor the ticket, it was a bit expensive ($350) but i do believe it is worth the price with so many exhibitions inside, if you have Taiwanese ARC, you can get a discount to $150, and if you are a Taiwanese student, the ticket is free! The bus stop is right in front of the museum. Transportation also easy, go to Shilin MRT station, exit 1, from there only 1~2 mins walk to the bus station. The museum has both chinese and english information for each exhibition so it's very easy to understand especially for tourist. Disfarmer was one of the more than 60 live events that are presented at MASS MoCA every year, many of which are developed in MASS MoCA’s Hunter Theater during extended artist residencies. An amazingly beautiful, great museum to visit in Taiwan, definitely a must! The building itself is a work of art, from the gate to the inside, everything is beautiful and so picturesque, so many awesome picture spot with a lot of knowledge to attain inside. This selection of Disfarmer’s photographs was on view at MASS MoCA in conjunction with the museum’s presentation of Disfarmer, a puppet theater work by Dan Hurlin, inspired by the life of this American portrait photographer. When thousands of these glass plates were discovered in the 1970s, Disfarmer’s photographs were recognized as a stunning achievement for their exquisite artistry, their profound empathy, and their landmark documentation of small-town life in America’s heartland.

Visitors streamed to the studio of this painstaking, sometimes cantankerous photographer. Using glass-plate photography long after it was obsolete, Disfarmer asked his subjects to decide how they would present themselves to his lens. From 1939 to 1945 - in an act of meticulous, reclusive, and sustained creativity - photographer Mike Disfarmer produced intimate portraits of the people of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
